About Cajun Country Run

Founded in 2002 by Rusty Bex, the Cajun Country Run became a TRAIL produced event in 2010.  Today the event now offers 3 running options.  The half marathon is a 100% road, single loop and USATF certified course.  The 10k & 5k are trail runs offer a mix cross country and single track sections.  The 10k course will take you on some technical sections along the banks of the Vermilion River.

The hallmark of the Cajun Country is the home made alligator head trophies, compliments of CajunBen.com & Greg Girard.  The Cajun Country Half Marathon began in 2002. The course was a double loop course that included 4 miles of cross country running.  In 2014 we changed the half marathon course to an all road single loop course and got it certified by the USATF.

After acquiring the Cajun Country, TRAIL purchased property to add to the Acadiana Park & Nature Station in 2012.  That year we added a 10k trail run that includes a mix of cross country and technical trail running.  The 10k offers some nice short hills along the banks of the Vermilion River.  With the 5k trail run added in 2013, there is a full compliment of running courses for every age to enjoy.

TRAIL

Transportation Recreation Alternatives In Louisiana (TRAIL) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to building and maintaining parks, hiking trails, bike trails paddling trails and other recreational infrastructure.  TRAIL was formed in 2004 and over the years the business model has evolved to also include producing several biking, running and paddling events which not only help people get outdoors and be active, but also use the facilities TRAIL actively supports.

The work at Acadiana Park & Nature Station epitomizes the purpose of TRAIL.  We have worked closely with government, agencies, private landowners, other non-profit organizations and businesses to help build one of the largest nature trails South of Chicot State Park and mountain bike courses.   The future offers many more options for expanding the park & its connectivity to other communities.
